A sultan resident for nearly 25 years, Councilmember Marianne Naslund graduated from Everett High School in 1988. She married her husband, Kevin, in 1990, the two purchasing a home in Sultan in 1993. They raised their two boys there, acquiring a third son along the way, after the couple invited a local teen with a troubled home-life to live with them. In 2012, the Naslund family was featured in the Reader’s Digest Hometown Hero series, for their willingness to help someone else.

Two of her three sons are currently serving in the United States Navy.

Naslund currently works as the truancy liaison for the Sultan School District, where she has been employed since 2002. Prior positions at the district have included facilities support and administrative secretary for the Sky Valley Options Alternative High School. From 1996 to 1999 Councilmember Naslund worked for the City of Sultan, as administrative assistant to the mayor and city administrator.

Naslund has volunteered with the Sky Valley Chamber of Commerce as the Sultan Summer Shindig Street Fair Coordinator since 1997, helping to organize the annual community celebration including positioning and managing the many Shindig vendors. She was recognized for her years of tireless service as the 2017 Sky Valley Citizen of the Year, which earned her the position of 2017 Sultan Shindig Parade Grand Marshal.

Other service includes the 2016 – 2018 Sultan Chapter President for the Public School Employees Union (SEIU 1948), and former Sultan High School Senior Parents President for the classes of 2010 and 2013.

In her free time, Naslund enjoys crafting, and is exceptionally fond of the color pink.

“I am obsessed with anything pink, preferably with sparkles,” Naslund said. “I scrapbook, paint, dye, hot glue, crochet, sew, and create digital projects.”

During the November 2017 election, Councilmember Naslund made the decision to retire from council service at the end of her current term. Councilmember-elect Christina Sivewright will be sworn into Position 6 during the first part of January, 2018.
