Sultan Mayor Carolyn Eslick proclaimed Monday, May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day, and the week of May 15 through May 21 as Police Week, in accordance with a joint resolution passed by U.S. Congress in 1962. Police Week is a national effort that not only calls on citizens to honor and remember those in law enforcement who lost their lives in the line of duty, but also offers a chance to honor those in law enforcement who bravely put themselves in harm’s way each day as they serve the community.
The proclamation was read during the Sultan City Council meeting on Thursday, May 11, 2017. Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Steve McDonald was in attendance, along with Deputies Cameron Elwell, Stuart Gort, Dave Bennett, Dan Uhrich, Master Patrol Deputy (MPD) Carl Whalen and Sgt. Tom Morris. Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office Volunteers Ray Coleman and Pat O’Donnell were also present.
