Councilmember Christina Sivewright was elected to the Sultan City Council in November 2017. A first time elected official, she took her oath of office on Thursday, December 21, 2017, and will begin her service on January 1, 2018.

Sivewright is a familiar face in the Sultan community, well known for her extensive community involvement and volunteerism. Thanks to her efforts, Sultan’s Main Street is lined with American flags on holidays and during other special events, a project that used crowdfunding to raise the needed money. Additionally, many of the city’s fire hydrants feature red, white and blue paint jobs, resulting from an ongoing project that combines her artistic skills with community service.

She ran for council, she said, because she is interested in serving the community on a broader level.

Sivewright works for the Washington State Employment Security Department as a site operator at WorkSource, a state agency that matches job seekers and potential employers. With over two decades of experience in the field of workforce development, Sivewright is confident that her background will be an asset as she tackles her new responsibilities as a councilmember.

She is looking forward to utilizing her skills as a collaborator, supervisor and certified Human Centered Design (HCD) practitioner, as well as her experiences in both state and federal program oversight.

She is also an artist and small business owner.

Whether it’s serving food at Sultan Harvest or co-chairing Sultan’s Veterans Day Ceremony, Sivewright plans to continue her volunteerism. Sivewright is an active lifetime member of the VFW Post 2554 Auxiliary and a member of the city’s Travelers Park Committee, which seeks to enhance the park by adding improvements. Currently, she is engaged in a fundraising effort aimed at installing a patriotic piece of art in the small, roadside park. Not only meant to enhance tourism, the piece will also help preserve the history and heritage of the city.
