The Mayor’s Youth Achievement Award was introduced to the City of Sultan in 2000, by former Volunteers of America (VOA) Director Marilyn Komnick. Meant to recognize Sultan School District youth for outstanding performance, the award is based on a set of criteria including community service, politics, arts and entertainment, athletics, academics, citizenship and overcoming obstacles.

Any community member can nominate a student for this prestigious honor. Once the nomination forms are received, they are carefully reviewed by the mayors of Sultan and Gold Bar, who each select one student from their respective communities to receive the award.

The awards are presented during the annual Academic Achievement Awards Ceremony, held in the Sultan High School Commons.
