The Hoot Owl Mini Mart is located at 601 U.S. 2 and owned by Paul Thind.
Paul was born and raised in India and moved to California with his family in 1994. They moved to Lake Stevens to run a sub shop business and bought the Hoot Owl in 2006.
The Hoot Owl is a gas and convenience store and most of their customers are travelers and local community members.
Paul has three employees including himself, all of whom are family members.
Besides running the business, Paul volunteers on a very large level. He’s a member of the Soch Center Service of Core Humanity, helping the homeless and disabled citizens in Seattle, Bellingham and Bellevue every week.
Every year Paul is joined by approximately 350 members of the Soch Center to walk at the Susan Komen Walk for Breast Cancer, raising approximately $25,000 for the cause.
He goes to the University of Washington “Turban Day” giving away free food and turbans, and he takes food to prisoners in Tacoma, helping them with language translation.
Paul loves how Sultan’s downtown has brightened up with the Christmas lights and flowers. He’d like to see all of Main Street with more lights and flowers and offered to participate in making it happen.
As for the Hoot Owl, Paul hopes to start serving hot food and fresh sandwiches in the next three to five years, building a kitchen area and serving a variety of food.
