Governor Jay Inslee has directed that Washington State and United States flags at all state agency facilities will be lowered to half-staff effective Friday, February 9, 2018.
The flags are lowered in memory of former Governor John Spellman, who passed away on January 16, 2018 from pneumonia. Spellman served as the Governor of Washington between 1981 and 1985, and was the King County Executive from 1969 to 1981.
He was 91 years old at the time of his death.
Flags will remain at half-staff until the close of business on Tuesday, February 13, 2018. According to a news release from Gov. Inslee’s office, memorial services will be held on February 12, 2018, at 12:00 p.m. at St. James Cathedral, 804 Ninth Avenue, Seattle, Washington.
The memorial service will be followed by a Celebration of Life for Governor John and Lois Spellman at the Bell Harbor Conference Center, 2211 Alaskan Way, Seattle at 2:30 p.m.
