The Sultan City Council has appointed John Seehuus to serve as mayor for the remainder of former Mayor Carolyn Eslick’s term.
Seehuus moved into the mayor’s position after Eslick resigned to focus on her new responsibilities as Washington State Representative for the 39th District. Seehuus has served on the Sultan City Council since 2004 (nonconsecutive terms), and was reelected in November 2017.
He was appointed mayor pro tem by his fellow councilmembers in 2006, 2007, 2015 and 2017. Through his capacity as mayor pro tem, Seehuus assumed the role of interim mayor once Eslick resigned the seat on Oct. 31, 2017.
His official appointment to the position took place during the regular business meeting of the Sultan City Council on Thursday, Dec. 21, 2017.
“I am incredibly honored to serve as mayor,” Seehuus said. “The fact that my fellow councilmembers felt confident enough about my abilities to appoint me to the position is tremendously meaningful to me. I look forward to my continued service to the citizens of Sultan.”
