In 2021 the city kicked off a project to create a community vision to guide our efforts to improve and revitalize Sultan’s historic downtown. A steering committee of residents was formed who created an action plan which would guide the project moving forward. To develop the plan the City’s team completed the following steps:
- Literature Review: Reviewed the latest guidance and best practices based on 50+ articles, plans, as well as regional and state guidance.
- Peer City Interviews: Met with staff from eight cities from across King and Snohomish counties that have had success revitalizing their down towns.
- Community Survey: An online survey that received 440 responses about the community’s desires for the future of downtown
- Focus Groups: Four focus groups were held at City Hall to get additional feedback from respondents to the community survey. Forty community members participated in these focus groups.
The result of these efforts is the 2021 Sultan Strategic Plan and Vision which is available for the public to review. The City will be using this plan to guide our efforts moving forward.
