In 2019 the City moved up into the Urban City group within the Transportation Improvement Board funding groups. One of the requirements for funding in this group is that the road have a federal classification. Currently the only roads that are classified in the city are Sultan Basin Road, 132nd Street, and 339th Avenue (Rice Road). Staff came to council in July of 2019 to apply for money to overlay the worst section of these roads that do not have any planned future development on them.
At that time, the anticipated cost for these improvements was expected to be about $500,000. The TIB application was for work that will be completed in 2020 and TIB requires a 10% match for this grant. In July of 2019 council approved the mayor to sign the application and the city was successful in receiving this grant.
The design was completed, and the project was put out to bid in May 2020. The engineers estimate for this project was $395,000.00. The city received four bids, of those bids, Lakeside Industries Inc was the low bidder for this project. They have a local Asphalt plant and Gravel pit in Monroe, and they were also the Sub contractor that paved the 3rd street project for SRV last year. Completion date Summer 2020.
