Garbage & Recycling
Notice: Starting January 1, 2021, your garbage, recycling, and compostables service provider will change to Republic Services. Please click here for information regarding the change in schedule, or click here for a document that explains the key changes.
Garbage (through December 31, 2020)
The City of Sultan currently provides garbage service for its citizens. Pickup days are Monday and Thursday with commercial pickup on Fridays.
In January each year, the City creates garbage calendars for the year with the zones on it along with a separate calendar for each individual zone. These calendars are mailed out to the citizens according to the zone. The City also mails a calendar with your monthly bill. For a zone specific calendar view below:
Garbage should be set out no later than 7 a.m. the day of your pick up. Place containers two (2) feet apart with lid opening towards the street. Place containers at least three (3) feet from cars, trees, and mailboxes. All garbage is required to be contained in the tote provided by the City.
The City has a franchise agreement with Republic Services for recycling and yard waste services.
All recycling in the City is picked up on Mondays and is available every week. Recycling services are mandatory in the City of Sultan. Republic Services does not pick up on Christmas or New Year’s Day. If either of these holidays falls on a Monday, the recycling will be picked up the next business day. No tax is assessed on recycling services.
If you have questions or concerns about your recycling, please contact Republic Services directly at 800-942-5965.
Message from Republic Services
Every year, Americans recycle more than 87 million tons. Unfortunately, not everything placed in a recycle bin is ready to be recycled. Did you know that a recent study showed two-thirds of Americans will put something in the recycling cart even if they are unsure if it is recyclable? Sometimes, perfectly good items (such as paper) are ruined because other items are wet or soiled. Contaminated recycling hurts the environment.
For more information, please read the Republic Services "What Goes Where" Brochure (PDF).
What can you do? Remember to Empty, Clean, Dry:
- Empty - Make sure each container is completely empty.
- Clean - Each container should be free from food and other residue.
- Dry - Dry containers ensure that other recyclables, such as cardboard and paper, remain uncontaminated.
The City has a franchise agreement with Republic Services for recycling and yard waste services. You can contact Republic Services directly to set up yard waste service.
