Road Trippin' On US 2 by Evening Magazine Sultan Business Spotlight Economic and Business Development is a top priority for the citizens, Mayor Eslick and the City Council. At the May 27, 2010 City Council meeting the Sultan City Council voted unanimously to direct Mayor Eslick to sign a resolution to recognize Sultan businesses. To date Mayor Eslick and the Sultan City Council recognized the following local businesses:
Ag Supply Company was established in 1933 in Wenatchee Washington serving the local farming communities in the Wenatchee and the Eastern Washington Region. They are a local company providing petroleum and propane in the Wenatchee area and hardware, lawn and garden and feed in several Ace Hardware Stores throughout Washington.
Sultan Ace Hardware became a division of Ag Supply Company following a long process of demographic and performance studies. Ag Supply Company hires development people and brokers to look for new business opportunities. The Front Porch Feed Store in Sultan was for sale and is exactly what Ag Supply Company looks for. The building and other needed demographics such as population, schools located in the community, a small community that could support a hardware and feed store all seemed to fit. General Manager, Al Sanow was called to make a visit. Al drove to Sultan from Wenatchee to get his first look. “I went in and passed as a customer to get a feeling of the business and community”, commented Al. They liked what they saw and following a lot of number crunching, found it would be feasible and profitable to convert the building to an Ace Hardware to provide hardware and continue to sell feed and garden supplies to the community. The building was closed on November 30, 2011 for remodel. A construction trailer was parked in the parking lot to provide uninterrupted service to their customers. Sultan Ace Hardware opened their doors for business on February 18, 2012 and will have their official Grand Opening April 27, 28 and 29th with the ceremonial ribbon cutting beginning at 11:30 AM on Saturday, April 28th. The City Council and community are encouraged to attend the grand opening.

Dr. Brian Copple is the City’s first duel recipient of the Business and Volunteer Spotlight awards. Dr. Copple is the owner of Sultan Chiropractic and Massage Center. He has also volunteered serving the Sultan community on various special projects and commissions for the last 25 years. Dr. Copple is a leader in the community, often working quietly behind the scenes to make Sultan a great place to live and do business.
The Mayor is please to recognize Brian Copple for his many years of service both as a community member and business leader. Brian and Debbie Copple moved to the Sky Valley in 1987, settling their family in Startup. They started their business, Sultan Chiropractic and Massage Center in the building on US 2 where the Sky Valley Medical Center is now located. In those beginning years, it was just Dr. Copple and his wife, Debbie who kept the business running.Sultan. In 1996 they purchased the Sultan Sporting Goods Store building located at 311 US 2 from former Mayor, Larry Koehler. The building was remodeled for the Chiropractic Center and later to include rental space for what is now known as Sky River Natural Health Care. Since Sultan Chiropractic and Massage Center opened, they have treated over 5,000 patients. Last year they celebrated their 25th year of being in business. Dr. Copple now has 2 employees and 2 massage therapists.

In 2010, Maggie Torza missed out on the opportunity to sell Pampered Chef products at Sultan’s Winterfest. She wanted to participate in Winterfest, and began wondering what else she could sell. Maggie met Mayor Eslick and Chamber Director, Debbie Copple that day and the 3 of them discussed the delicious, decadent desserts she creates. Mayor Eslick and Debbie Copple encouraged Maggie to create and sell them at Winterfest.
Maggie was very successful at Winterfest in 2010 and went on to work with Mayor Eslick and Ms. Copple on a business plan. "If it wasn’t for Carolyn and Debbie, I wouldn’t be in business today." Maggie commented. "They helped me turn a hobby into a real business." Miss Maggie’s Desserts officially started in June, 2011 when Maggie found a kitchen to rent at the Twin Eagles Café in Snohomish. She is currently looking for a commercial kitchen to rent in Sultan. Maggie is a member of GROW Washington, a retail outlet business incubator in Snohomish, founded by Mayor Carolyn Eslick. Miss Maggie’s Desserts can also be found in the Ventures Store in Pike Place Market in Seattle (another business incubator), Fresh Market Café in the Wine Cellars of Washington, Public Market in Snohomish. Maggie is planning on having a store front in Sultan within the next 5 years. She is also planning on "Going Virtual" on her web site. Customers around the world can add her chocolates to their shopping cart and order her sweets on-line. She has been test shipping her chocolates to relatives in England, Kansas and Rossberg Washington.
